The main advantage of a tool that integrates public transport planning and management, optimizing resources and personnel to ensure reliable operations with maximum cost-efficiency and agility, lies in its ability to run complex scenarios in record time. Previously, relying on Excel spreadsheets or outdated software yielded rigid, one-size-fits-all solutions; recalculating routes required repeating the entire process manually, consuming days of work.
With the MAIOR suite, Buses Vule, one of the main operators in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, gained a true virtual laboratory. In a recent modeling scenario involving 309 vehicles, the system provided two fast solutions in just 30 minutes. Given an additional 8 hours of processing time, the platform generated a suite of 40 distinct optimized solutions.
This predictive capability served as a powerful commercial asset. In late 2025, by leveraging these precise simulations to craft highly competitive bids, Buses Vule won the tender to operate two new business units (EcoVía), adding 621 new buses to its fleet.

Cultural Shift: From Spreadsheets to Advance-Scheduled Shifts
The technological transition also called for an evolution in internal company culture. Traditionally, the system relied on physical route sheets, where drivers would report to the terminal and dispatchers assigned daily tasks on the fly.
Under the new system, schedules arrive fully optimized and pre-programmed. This model maximizes productive hours for both staff and vehicles on the road, while minimizing downtime at the depots.

For Santiago residents, the RED standard has already made physical amenities like air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and USB ports the norm. Today, public transit users' top priority has shifted: the focus is now on service reliability and consistency.
When planning accurately accounts for traffic variables and electric fleet constraints, street operations achieve far greater stability.

Next Steps: The August 2026 Pilot Test
Currently in the final stages of data setup, Buses Vule is counting down the days to put these virtual scenarios into practice. The goal is to launch an operational pilot of the platform in August 2026 across two of the company’s 100% electric depots.
The logistical challenge of this phase highlights the system’s true capabilities: only one of these depots has charging infrastructure, requiring planned deadhead transfers of vehicles from the neighboring facility to recharge.
Thanks to HMMS simulation power, these operational moves, along with their associated costs and times, are already mapped out and optimized long before the first bus starts its shift.
